Empire Auctions Pty Ltd (ABN: 91 130 546 600) has acquired LawsonsOnline, effective 30 April 2008.

Backed by one of Australia’s largest online retail and logistics providers, Empire Auctions Pty Ltd has acquired the auction platform of LawsonsOnline, adding online auctions to their core competency which includes logistics and online retail sales.

Chairman of Empire Auctions, John Malifitana said the combination of the businesses means that customers will continue to have the same level of assurance of purchasing via online auction. Commenting on the deal, John Malifitana said that “the LawsonsOnline website has become a favourite of savvy auction buyers and has established a good brand and a loyal customer base."

“With this acquisition, we will now look at broadening and expanding the product range quickly, including continuing to offer unreserved niche products such as wine, cognacs, cigars, jewellery and computers through a safe a secure auction plafform”, said Malifitana.

Buyers will be able to bid online with the assurance of dealing with a full service auction house that is backed by a leading logistics provider. A name change is required before 30 June this year.

As at the date of sale, the company was one of the leading online auction brands in Australia with approximately 20,000 users and 60,000 unique visitors per month.
